Vertabase software provides transparent overview of municipal projects

Oak Park, MI (PRWEB) April 14, 2008

Vertabase, a leading developer of project management software, today announced that the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a principal city in the South Florida metropolitan area of 5.5 million people, has successfully implemented Vertabase software in its Information Technology (IT) Department.

This implementation represents a major step in establishing clear ownership and responsibility for projects managed by Fort Lauderdale's City Hall. The results are greater transparency and efficiency. With Vertabase, officials at City Hall may now evaluate the status and success of numerous projects at a glance. Based on the success with its IT Department, the City of Fort Lauderdale intends to further roll out Vertabase in other departments at City Hall.

Vertabase 4 offers project management tools that accelerate productivity by simplifying and centralizing access to project information and metrics. With Vertabase 4, people can enter information via a range of software applications, manage projects, share reports and then export, share and manipulate these reports with third party applications. Vertabase 4 delivers a simple, intuitive and powerful tool set for both technical and non-technical users.

"For us, the challenge was to implement a structured and formal approach to project management," said Tim Edkin, Director of IT Services, City of Fort Lauderdale. "About a year ago, we started investigating our options. We looked at four or five project management solutions, including Microsoft Project. Eventually, we chose Vertabase because it is easy to use, it's well designed and it's well supported. In the past, if a project was late there wasn't much we could learn from it. Now, we're very analytical. We see what's happening and manage accordingly. By providing an effective operational overview for City Hall, Vertabase has improved the way we manage our resources."

"We have about 20 IT projects ongoing at any given time, typically consisting of 20 to 30 tasks, executed over three to six months," Mr. Edkin continued. "We have integrated Vertabase with Crystal Reports software, which was very straight-forward, to provide comprehensive reports. We have been very pleased since we implemented Vertabase in the IT group about six months ago. And, on the basis of our department's success, we intend to roll out Vertabase in several other departments at City Hall."

"The City of Fort Lauderdale has done a great job of implementing a formal approach to project management and Vertabase is proud to have played a role in this process," said Mark Phillips, CEO, Vertabase. "We believe that ease-of-use and flexibility are the key determinants to users' adoption of project management software and apply these beliefs to our product development and implementation. When an enterprise such as the City of Fort Lauderdale implements Vertabase software, it is a very rewarding endorsement. We thank our new client and look forward to our shared success," Mr. Phillips concluded.
