Composer Rivero explained “Mirror of Eternity,” drawn from St. Clare of Assisi’s phrase “Place your mind before the mirror of eternity”, was inspired by research into written works of women in religious communities from around the world. “I literally stumbled across this text in that process. I was stunned that I had never heard it set to music before, and from that point absolutely couldn’t get the text out of my mind until I began the composing process.”



As a composer, Ms. Rivero is influenced by Debussy, Benjamin Britten, Ralph Vaughan Williams. Her compositions include fifty original works for individual artists and choirs, four of which she has founded.



The “Franciscanized World” page is designed to help visitors see the world as Saints Francis and Clare did - realistically, compassionately, finding good and holy possibility in the substance and culture of everyday life.

Hundreds to Stride for the Cure at Cold Spring Country Club



In an unprecedented move by a private country club, Cold Spring Country Club will close its golf course on Sunday, July 1 to "Stride for the Cure" to benefit breast and prostate cancer.



COLD SPRING, N. Y. (PRWEB) June 20, 2007



 Hundreds of members of the club, as well as community members, will make minimum donations of $30 per person to walk the golf course to raise money and awareness for the work being done by the American Cancer Society for research, education, advocacy and patient and family service programs.



"Participants can bring family, friends and children of all ages and walk as many or as few holes as they like," said Elaine Levitan, the event's organizer. "We are the first country club on Long Island to close our golf course to our members in order to support such a worthy cause and we hope it will add to the legacy of support and encouragement in the fight against breast and prostate cancer."



The golf course will be closed at 4 p. m. and after the walk there will be a family BBQ available for those who choose to participate. One loop around the golf course for this event is three miles.



Cold Spring Country Club is a private club in Cold Spring Hills that is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The club is an active participant in the Babe Zaharias Memorial Golf Tournament which last year raised $1.6 million for the American Cancer Society. This year's event is Tuesday, July 10.



"Cancer death rates have declined for the second year in a row. This emphasizes the progress we've made in the fight against this dreaded disease. It's largely due to early detection and advances in treatment. This gives us hope that our mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem will become a reality," said Dee McCabe, Regional Vice President of the American Cancer Society's Long Island/Nassau County region.

A public sector initiative to pay invoices within 10 days is not being passed on by main contractors to smaller suppliers, the Forum of Private Business has discovered.

A public sector initiative to pay invoices within 10 days is not being passed on by main contractors to smaller suppliers, the Forum of Private Business has discovered.



While official figures show most central Government departments pay main contractors within 10 days the Forum understands that some sub-contractors and suppliers have been left waiting for payments for months at a time.



Taking up the case of its Glasgow-based member EG Heating and Plumbing Ltd, which was recently forced to wait 60 days to be paid by Interserve Defence despite the construction company having been paid by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) within 10 days, the Forum has raised the issue with Peter Luff MP, the Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology.



The Forum has suggested that, by ensuring it is passed along the supply chain, prompt payment could be used as an incentive for more small businesses to sub-contract on government-sponsored projects.



"For many smaller sub-contractors this is the real story behind the commitment to prompt public sector payment,” said The Forum’s Head of Policy Matt Goodman. “What is the point in main contractors being paid within 10 days if firms further along the supply chain have to wait considerably longer for their money?



“Passing on prompt public sector payment throughout the supply chain would not only help more small firms maintain a healthy cash flow, it would encourage more businesses to bid for public contracts.”



Using Freedom of Information (FoI) legislation, the Forum asked the MoD to provide details of payment times to suppliers.



It replied that it is ‘fully committed to paying 90% of valid invoices’ within 10 days and that, since March 2009, it has ‘consistently exceeded’ the target.



The MoD also said that the latest figures show that 97.5% of invoices submitted by all suppliers were paid ‘within 10 days of receipt’.



It added that main contractors’ payments to sub contractors should be made ‘within a specific period not exceeding 30 days from receipt of a valid claim as defined by the sub-contract requirements’



"The danger is that this is the tip of the iceberg – the issue is certainly not restricted to the any one sector,” added Mr Goodman. “We need to build on the work done to create Prompt Payment Code so that timely payment, in full, becomes the norm across the UK.



"The risk is that that more firms go under because they are unable to maintain any kind of cash flow because of late payment from larger companies."



In an attempt to reveal the true picture of public sector payment to small firms, the FoI request follows similar submissions to all local councils (http://tinyurl. com/22rld6r) and NHS trusts (http://tinyurl. com/23g4q78) across the UK. Last week, the Forum submitted an FoI request on payment to all local police forces (http://tinyurl. com/29n7a4b).



“While we welcome the commitment to reduce public sector payment terms, this doesn’t always work in practice,” said EG Heating and Plumbing Ltd’s Eleanor Grant, who runs the firm with her husband, Eddie. “Small companies like ours are normally at the bottom of the supply chain so don’t experience the prompt payment enjoyed by main contractors.



“In addition, most contracts are subject to 5% retention, with 2.5% released on practical completion of the works. The defects period on Government contracts can be as much as 36 months. And there is the real risk that retention monies could be lost in the event of insolvencies elsewhere in the supply chain.”



“The Forum of Private Business is to be commended for naming and shaming the companies who delay payment to suppliers,” she added. “The Government must listen to the voices of SMEs, which are the lifeblood of the economy and are struggling to stay afloat because of the effects of recession.”



The Forum has campaigned extensively against the practice of late payment. It was instrumental in lobbying for the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act, which was introduced in 1998 and provides firms with a right to charge interest on late payments.



The Forum’s work also led to the introduction of the Prompt Payment Code – a list of companies pledging to pay smaller suppliers on time and in full.



However, too few of the UK’s bigger businesses have signed up to the code, and many small suppliers are afraid to come forward and take them on publicly or in the courts.



The Forum gives business owners a voice to speak out and will treat all communications on late payment sent to latepayment(at)fpb(dot)org anonymously.

"There are many days that the electrical meter moves in reverse allowing the homeowner to sell the excess energy back to the utility company," Armstrong stated. "In this way the project represents a carbon-neutral model for residential housing nationwide."

In the first quarter of 2007, the home will be donated to St. Michael's Housing Authority and then turned over to a family with a teenage boy who is living with quadriplegic paralysis. Operating costs represent only a small portion of the total cost of reusable endoscope procedures, according to a new report from Millennium Research Group

Millennium Research Group (MRG), the global authority on medical technology market intelligence, has completed a thorough analysis of the per-procedure cost of reusable rigid endoscopes. By surveying operating room (OR) managers in both hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers across the US, MRG determined that the purchase cost of a rigid endoscope represents only a small portion of the total per-procedure cost of the device. According to a new MRG report entitled US Rigid Endoscope Cost Analysis, the total average cost of a reusable rigid endoscope is over $150 per procedure.



Historically, the initial purchase cost of a rigid endoscope was regarded as the most significant cost associated with the device. MRG has discovered, however, that the greatest costs associated with rigid endoscope ownership are actually attributable to scope backup, repair, refurbishment, sterilization, and OR downtime. These results are similar across all major rigid endoscope types, including laparoscopes, arthroscopes, urological rigid scopes, ENT rigid scopes, rigid bronchoscopes, and rigid hysteroscopes.



"On average, these costs contribute an additional 650% to the reusable rigid endoscope purchase cost over the lifespan of the device," says Barbara Prud'homme, Senior Analyst at MRG. "Facilities may therefore find it less expensive to purchase disposable endoscopes."
