Universal Background Screening today introduced its latest product designed to help employers reduce risk and improve workplace safety in conjunction with the Society for Human Resource Management’s Employment Management Association Conference and Exposition. The company’s USA OffenderSearch™ is a compilation of sex offender registration data from all fifty states plus the District of Columbia. USA OffenderSearch further distinguishes itself from other commercial sex offender databases or individual state registries available to the public by offering historical registrations that may no longer exist on public lists for a variety of reasons. In addition, USA OffenderSearch includes offender photos when available.

The value of USA OffenderSearch can be illustrated in the following example: A man was convicted of sex crimes in the state of California in 1995 and registered as a sex offender in that state. A few years later, he notified the State of California that he was moving out of state, so he was removed from the California Registry. He then moved to New Mexico, where he failed to register with his new state of residence as required by law.

A few years later, he moved to Arizona where he applied to work for a client of Universal. At this point, the man was not listed on any state sex offender registries. Since his conviction was in California and it occurred ten years prior, his record was not available for an employment background check under California law. Since the prospective employer is a client of Universal Background Screening and requests a USA OffenderSearch for each applicant as a part of their background screening package, the man’s prior status as a registered California Sex Offender was quickly identified, even though current registries in all three states showed no record of this individual.

“Universal Background Screening’s USA OffenderSearch is a low-cost, high-value service that provides an additional level of due diligence for our clients’ background screening programs,” said Kevin Olson, chairman and CEO of Universal Background Screening. “This service is particularly important for employers in the healthcare, education and home service fields, or for any position that puts an employee in an unsupervised situation with customers or other employees.”

USA OffenderSearch is fully compliant with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). All possible matches are researched and reviewed by Universal’s Compliance Department to assure accuracy and compliance with both Federal and applicable state laws before reporting to employers.

Standard pricing for the instant USA OffenderSearch is $6.00 per name searched. Universal offers a bulk screening program that allows employers to check all current employees or to re-screen existing employees. USA OffenderSearch is also available through the company’s website on a retail basis to the general public for personal background checks when used for non-FCRA regulated purposes.

The Society for Human Resource Management’s 37th Annual Employment Management Association Conference and Exposition is located at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego. The expo is open through Friday, March 31st. Universal Background Screening is located in booth 100/102.
